To get back in the win column, Canucks need to get back to keeping things tight
via theprovince.comYes, the following premise sounds a little batty: the Canucks may have lost five straight but the roof isn’t caving in.
There are reasons to think that the hot start the team put together wasn’t a mirage and that they still have a (surprising) outside chance at the playoffs.
In many ways, Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Montreal was the perfect tale of how this season is going to be. Though they lost their way in recent games, Saturday they got back to playing a style that is designed t -

B.C. Ferries to revamp reservation fares on major routes
via vancouversun.comOn the busy Remembrance Day long weekend there was one Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay ferry sailing that had 50 unredeemed reservations.
It’s one of the reasons why B.C. Ferries is planning “variable-priced fares” for its three major routes between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
“We might offer variable pricing if you book a discounted fare at our off-peak time and fully prepaid for that,” said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall. “And then this issue o -
More than 40,000 people expected at WE Day Vancouver events over two days
via vancouversun.comWhen Jason Cao was a child, he would run free in his neighbourhood, playing with friends. These days, he rarely speaks to his neighbours in Renfrew Heights.
But a project, inspired by a WE Day workshop Cao attended with his wife and two kids in July, is changing that.
The family recently built a mini-library out of a used breadbox, then filled it with some of their favourite books, encouraging their neighbours to help themselves to one and leave another for someone else.

Five 'dirty D's' do in Sikora's Classical Records after 40 years

“It was almost a community drop-in centre for (people with a common) musical interest, with some profit on the side,” laughs Ed Savenye, who started off as a customer and became a co-owner. “And not so much profit in recent years.”
Against the odds, the specialty store survived while waves of larger record stores closed. But Friday, Sikora’s announced it w -

Patrick Johnston: Good Ship Canuck navigates waves despite pundits’ Titanic expectations
via theprovince.comHands up if you bet on the Vancouver Canucks being a .500 hockey club through their first 20 games.
If your hand is up, we won’t label you a liar, but we might make a contorted face that includes a furrowed brow and smirk.
It has been a surprising start for the young National Hockey League squad, picked by most puck pundits to finish at or near the bottom of the Pacific Division.
Even with their swoon on the road this week, the story, so far, has been about a combination of improved play f -
Patrick Johnston: GM Jim Benning likes progress, process of Canucks at NHL quarter pole
via theprovince.comFew observers would have predicted or expected the Vancouver Canucks to be sitting near the top of the Pacific Division one-quarter of the way into this National Hockey League season.
Even the Canucks’ brass sought to temper fans’ expectations before the 2018-19 campaign started, highlighting the number of younger players on the rebuilding NHL team or close to making the big-league jump.

“That’s the NHL, you play well, you’re going to lose some games when you play well,” he said after Saturday’s 3-2 home loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
The coach and his players were frustrated, given how much they wanted to tighten up their game following a couple of ugly losses to the New York Islanders and then the Minnesota Wild.
But in his post-game press conference, Green was remarkably upbeat. He acknowledg -
