Makeover: Dermaplaning! How did we ever survive without it?
via vancouversun.comI was recently introduced to Dermaplaning by my facialist Amanda Hlatky of Glow Dermal Therapy and it has forever changed my skin care routine!
Dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment which uses a surgical blade to remove dead skin and vellus hair (a.k.a.: peach fuzz) from the face, leaving the skin soft and smooth, and allowing product to penetrate into the skin beautifully. I recommended this treatment to clients that were preparing for an important event, and they are all hooked!

Ledingham McAllister project builds on terrific Kelowna location
via vancouversun.comThe phrase that “to everything there is a season” seems particularly applicable to Kelowna’s real estate market these days. After a mini-boom between 2000 and 2007, the market cooled off with the global financial crisis, leaving the city with a surplus of new homes and few buyers.
For Vancouver-based Ledingham McAllister, Waterscapes was its first foray into the Kelowna market. After the market cooled, it decided to rent out many of the 890 high- and low-rise homes until things -
The Home Front: Maximizing urban gardens
via vancouversun.comIn dense urban areas in Canada and the U.S., homeowners are maximizing small outdoor living areas through clever design, says Joe Raboine, who has specialized in outdoor design and construction for over 18 years and now oversees the internal design department for hardscape company Belgard.
“A lot of retirees and empty nesters are moving into these areas,” Raboine says. “They’ve had these large suburban yards and want to do things like garden in their outdoor living s -

Industry and conservationists square off over B.C.'s Howe Sound
via vancouversun.comIn some parts of the world, the island-studded fiord called Howe Sound would have been locked up as a national park long ago, given its astounding natural beauty on the edge of a metropolis of more than 2.5-million people.
It’s a special place where steep-sided mountains plunge almost 300 metres into glacier-fed waters that are home to a wide range of marine life, including salmon, herring, whales, dolphins, porpoises, and fragile glass-sponge reefs.
But full protection is not what happene -

Men's style tips: When to give away that suit versus to keep it
via vancouversun.comFashion can be a tricky thing — especially when it comes to men’s suiting.
For any suit, whether it’s a classic tuxedo or a more casual business option, the fit and tailoring is key.
And, as time goes on, styles, fits and physical forms change, so it’s important to revisit what’s worth keeping in your closet, and what’s reached its best-by date.
“What to fold versus hold becomes paramount, especially when you work the corporate life and aim to stay sarto -

Peter ter Weene: There are big gaps in quality of life for millennials in Metro Vancouver
via vancouversun.comWhether it is jokes about millennials’ love of avocado toast or sympathy for high student debt and housing costs, it can be all too easy to assume millennials are experiencing life the same way.
But there are significant differences we must recognize — differences between minority groups, income and education levels, ages and genders. If we want to truly understand the breadth of issues facing millennials, and there are a lot of them, we need to stop talking about millennials with a -
Patrick Gagnon: 'No truck or trade with the Yankees'
via vancouversun.comParliament has recessed for the summer and with a federal general election roughly one year away, Ottawa’s political circles are mulling this week’s cabinet shuffle and the possible proroguing of parliament in the fall. Based on previous Liberal governments and my own experience as a member of parliament, it was no surprise to see Justin Trudeau’s team renewing legislative priorities and realigning the front bench through the promotion of fresh faces from the eager back benches -
Letters: Mouse that roared: Canada outwits U.S. on trade
via vancouversun.comListening to U.S. President Donald Trump’s complaints about Canada’s trade unfairness and Sarah Sanders’ recent assertion that Canada took advantage of America’s kindness, I have come to realize that perhaps there is truth to these claims. It takes an honest leader to publicly admit he and his countrymen have been had all these years. It must be galling that Canada, with a total population smaller than that of the state of California, has managed to outwit the United Stat -
Claire Trevena: Having no long-distance bus transportation is unacceptable
via vancouversun.comPeople are understandably fearful about Greyhound’s decision to eliminate all its service in B.C. and throughout Western Canada.
As a government, we are working to making life better for people and to ensure they can access the services they need. The safe, reliable and affordable service provided by bus operators is necessary for people to travel for work, to access health or social services, or to visit family or friends. So the impact of its loss on northern and rural communities in par -

Fireboats assist in battling cliffside brush fire in West Vancouver, now under control
via vancouversun.comA brush fire that broke out Friday afternoon in West Vancouver’s Parthenon Park is under control, said West Vancouver Fire and Rescue.
According to assistant chief Jeff Bush, crews received a call about a developing wildfire at about 1:30 p.m. and arrived on the scene to discover a blaze making its way into the brush.
The fire’s location, on a ledge overlooking the sea at a popular spot for cliff-jumpers, posed problems for fire crews.
“It was extremely difficult for our crews -
Metro Vancouver homebuyers face unintended consequences of mortgage stress testing rules
via vancouversun.comIn Metro Vancouver, where the gap between incomes and home values makes the region an unaffordable outlier in North America, buyers are especially prone to get hit with unintended consequences of so-called mortgage stress testing.
The test was introduced earlier this year by Canada’s banking regulator to keep homebuyers from taking on risky levels of debt. But the result is reduced buying power that changes what first-time homebuyers can purchase.
It is also affecting peopl -
