That's it: we now know when the Canadiens will play their 84 games in 2026–2027. We don't yet know where we'll be able to watch them… but that's another story.
What stands out right off the bat is that the Canadiens have 10 back-to-back game series on their schedule. Ten times, they'll be playing on less rest than the night before.
That's part of the game… and only three teams have fewer such back-to-backs than the Habs.
But what's a big advantage for the Habs is that on 19 o

The Wings’ new management could make Dylan Larkin change his mind
Dylan Larkin made headlines several weeks ago when he asked General Manager Steve Yzerman to trade him.
He no longer wants to be part of a plan that's going nowhere. But will he change his mind once he sees the Wings' new direction?
That's the question The Hockey News columnist Ryan Lambert is asking.
In his article (THN), Lambert lists the first three tasks the new GM will need to tackle: the vision for the roster, the timeline for becoming competitive, and finally, what to do about the captain -
If Nicolas Deslauriers’ name hadn’t been on the Cup, “there would have been a mutiny.”
Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has been in the news recently for taking up two entire lines on the Stanley Cup to list the names of his family members.
Another name on the list is that of Quebec native Nicolas Deslauriers. Why? After all, he didn't play at least 41 regular-season games with the team or any games in the finals. He did contribute more than Dundon's family members, though.
In fact, even though he didn't meet the criteria, the Hurricanes were determined to have Deslauriers' name on the -
Daniel Brière’s hostile bid was not well received throughout the league
Hostile bids have never been a popular option among CEOs. It's only recently that CEOs have begun to make greater use of this entirely legal way to strengthen their teams.
Unfortunately for them, hostile bids don't have a very high success rate. This year, there were two: Barrett Hayton and Leo Carlsson. Both were matched.
Appearing on iHeartRadio, Pierre McGuire admitted that Daniel Brière's hostile offer to the Ducks wasn't well received throughout the NHL.Listen: McGuire: People around -
Position Players on the Mound: Mookie Betts Wants to Change the Rules
Position players taking the mound used to be an extremely rare sight in MLB. Whenever it happened, it was celebrated as one of those quirky moments that only baseball can offer.
Just think of the showdown between slugger Anthony Rizzo and hitter Freddie Freeman, or when Brett Phillips sprinted from the bullpen before taking the mound in a—let's just say—unorthodox manner.
However, it has become increasingly common for Major League managers to use position players during lopsided loss -
Anthony Mantha was hoping for a call-up from the Habs… which never came
During the first summer of the Kent Hughes era, there wasn't much activity.
Montreal hasn't been very active, but that's not because the GM isn't on the phone. He's calling all the GMs and checking on the availability of just about every player—even those whose names haven't been mentioned in trade rumors.
Anthony Mantha was linked to the Habs, but obviously, a deal between the two sides didn't materialize. Today, the Quebec native admitted that he waited a good week for a call back from t -
“Don’t leave your kids with Mike Babcock”: Mike Commodore does it again
Mike Commodore doesn’t like Mike Babcock.
He really doesn't.
He's been speaking ill of him for a long time, and the former NHL defenseman has criticized (time and again) the Oilers' decision in recent weeks. He even said that the Edmonton organization sent him a threatening email telling him to tone it down a bit…
But clearly, Commodore couldn't care less.
Because this afternoon, he suggested that parents of the young players attending the Oilers' development camp keep a close -
MLB in Brief: Jacob Misiorowski Is Doing Well | Bryce Harper Speaks Out
Jacob Misiorowski is doing well
He’s set to pitch next week.
Great news for the Brewers:Jacob Misiorowski is likely to return to the starting rotation during the July 20–22 series against the Mets. We'll cover that story and more on our first #MLBCentral of the second half, which begins today at 10 a.m. ET on @MLBNetwork!

But for Garrett Crochet, things aren't going well at all. He hasn't started pitching again.

Seth and Jonah at the beach
via laineygossip.com
Filming for The Studio continues, this time in Venice, California, with Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill filming scenes involving electric scooters. I really enjoyed The Studio, but then, I am the target audience, a person who loves films and filmmaking. I often tease Lainey about The Morning Show, a series made for people who love television and the making of television, so I have to take my lumps when it comes to The Studio, because it’s the same thing.Of course, the second season will not be t -
Ivan Demidov is richer, but he’s the biggest loser of the summer for the CH
Ivan Demidov has a new contract in hand.
Starting with the 27-28 season, the forward will earn an annual salary of $9.15 million. Which, in reality, is an excellent amount for a young player like him.
But even though he's signed a new contract and has been able to secure his financial future, Demi is still, in my view, the biggest loser of the summer for the Canadiens.
Because, in reality, if we set aside his new deal… Demidov still doesn't have a center lined up for next season.
Nor does -
The Uprising trailer
via laineygossip.com
Just as we’re getting through The Odyssey, let’s look to another historical epic: Paul Greengrass’s The Uprising. The trailer dropped yesterday, showing off Andrew Garfield as 14th century rebel Wat Tyler, in a film that promises to be viscerally violent. Paul Greengrass doesn’t do it any other way.Greengrass is English, so I suppose it’s not surprising he’s interested in Wat Tyler’s Rebellion, also known as the Peasants’ Revolt, which occurred in -
Sports Betting: Major Suspension for Cardinals Executives
The National Football League (NFL) has announced a significant disciplinary action against Ryan Gold, an executive with the Arizona Cardinals. The executive has been suspended indefinitely following a league investigation into violations of its strict policy regarding sports betting.
According to the investigation's findings, Ryan Gold allegedly shared confidential, non-public information regarding the Cardinals' picks in the 2026 NFL Draft prior to their official announcement. The NFL also state -
Martin St-Louis’s son signed his first professional contract
Martin St-Louis’s son, Ryan, has completed his college career in the NCAA.
And he has found a job for the upcoming season.
The 23-year-old, who has never been drafted into the National Hockey League, has signed a one-season contract with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League. He's making the leap to the pros, as also reported by the NHL Info website. They're coming in hot!Abbotsford Canucks General Manager Richard Seeley announced today that the club has signed forwards Quinn -
Cam Schlittler will have to learn to channel his energy
Cam Schlittler is an excellent pitcher. He'll be a key player for the New York Yankees for many years to come.
But sometimes, he can be a little intense. His tense relationship with Red Sox fans is proof of that: he likes to call out people who aren't on his side.
Cam Schlittler on Red Sox fans talking trash:
“They can say whatever they want, but they're not really in a position to be talking, considering how the standings are.”

This PEOPLE cover on the Real Housewives is good and features most of the franchises (except for Rhode Island, which is new). It’s the cast of Ultimate Girls Trip: Roarin’ 20th and you just know this selection has sent some of the unchosen women into a tailspin. These are the prime jobs, these are the Bravo favourites.
It’s a good selection, but it is missing NeNe Leakes, who is my all-time favourite Housewife. My Housewives Mount Rushmore is four NeNe Leakes.View this post on -
Connor McDavid: “There’s a rumor that he’s interested in Philadelphia”
Connor McDavid signed a new contract with the Oilers last season.
The two-year deal (through the summer of 2028) will pay him $12.5 million per year. He decided to leave money on the table to help his GM build a Stanley Cup contender.
But the Oilers had better prove to him that they want to win. Otherwise…
Otherwise, the player widely regarded as the best in the world might decide to leave via free agency. Because by 2028, McDavid will (already) be 31 years old… and he'll certainly -
A Returnee to the Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes will get a welcome boost on offense for their upcoming matchup against the Calgary Stampeders.
Wide receiver Cole Spieker will return to action after being sidelined for several weeks due to an ankle injury.
Spieker has played in only one game since the start of the season, on June 4 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Despite his limited playing time, he demonstrated his potential by catching a 22-yard pass before being forced to join the injured list.
His return comes at a -
Friday Keanu
via laineygossip.com
Ah, now it is time to bless the feed with some Keanu. A perfect little Friday treat before the weekend, Keanu Reeves popped up in Milan, where he is on tour with his band, Dogstar. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen Keanu, though I heard him (briefly) in Toy Story 5 as Canadian stunt toy Duke Caboom.Seeing Keanu did get me wondering what he’s up to, movie-wise, which is that he’s always got a million projects in development, but one film he’s already made that I am -
Tarik Skubal: The chances of him being traded are slim
Not too long ago, it seemed certain that Tarik Skubal would be traded by the Detroit Tigers before the trade deadline. At the very least, it was clear that this was the way to go.
But in a weak American League Central division—and an American League that's weak overall—the Tigers have managed to turn things around in recent weeks.
Despite a record of 44 wins and 52 losses—eight games below .500—Detroit is just three and a half games out of a playoff spot. Add to that a fa -
The Canadiens have the fewest contracts of any team in the NHL
As you may know, each NHL team is allowed 50 contracts. This includes, among others, prospects and AHL players under contract with the parent club.
Right now, the Canadiens officially have 37 contracts on their books.
And when you compare that to the rest of the league on PuckPedia, you realize that no other team in the league currently has as many as 13 open spots to make additions.
(Credit: PuckPedia)
You might say that, in reality, the Habs can't add 13 players. That Bryce Pickford, once he p -
Living wives in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey
via laineygossip.com
No one in modern cinema loves a dead wife more than Christopher Nolan, whose oeuvre is littered with dead women, haunting their men, sometimes literally, from the beyond. These spectral spouses—in the case of Oppenheimer, it is a dead mistress—drive Nolan’s protagonists through his timey-wimey narratives and to their epic conclusion. Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, then, is a kind of rubric for Nolan’s work, for it is a film intimately concerned with living wives -
Mantha in Montreal? The Real Reasons Behind the Canceled Wedding
It's July 17, and the Canadiens still haven't added a single new player to their roster. No, I don't consider Brett Berard, Samuel Poulin, Hunter McKown, Maksymilian Szuber, Reilly Walsh, and Ethan Samson to be players with a real chance of making an impact in the NHL in 2026–27.
On July 10, Marc-Olivier Beaudoin revealed on social media that the Canadiens had shown (short-term) interest in Anthony Mantha, but that Mantha was still looking for a medium- to long-term deal.
Five days later, -
RUMOR: Mason Miller, a top target for the Yankees
Since the Padres aren’t guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, people are wondering if the team shouldn’t trade Mason Miller.
My colleague Félix Forget actually touched on this recently in an article.
In reality, because the Padres have a stellar bullpen, a solid farm system, and we're in a market with very few sellers, Miller could fetch a fortune and help solidify the team's offense.
Losing him would hurt, of course. But the bullpen is so good that it could potentially make up f -
Jonathan Marchessault: “It’s time to find him a new home”
Since arriving in Nashville, Jonathan Marchessault has been a disappointment.
When the Predators signed him, they surely expected more. They expected him and Steven Stamkos to take the team to the next level.
But that hasn't happened.
(Credit: Hockey DB)
The Quebec native hasn't put up strong numbers in his new uniform. As a result, there are several trade rumors swirling around the veteran.
I'm not sure exactly whether his contract ($5.5 million for three more years) will allow his new presiden -
