    René Auberjonois, a prolific actor best known for the TV shows “Benson” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” has died. He was 79.
    His son Rèmy-Luc Auberjonois tells The Associated Press he died Sunday at his home in Los Angeles of metastatic lung cancer.

    SOMERS — Emergency crews were called to a fire that damaged a home Sunday afternoon.
    The fire broke out around 4 p.m. at 28 Collins Rd.

    WALLINGFORD — Police arrested two men and a juvenile Sunday morning in connection to several vehicle break-ins.
    Police said they arrested Corey Baldwin, 18, of New Haven; Tyquell Gibson, 18, of New Haven and one juvenile.

    HAMDEN – A Hamden man was apparently shot dead in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
    Police say that at about 12:30 a.m. they responded to Whiting Street for a report of multiple gunshots.
    Officers found a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. Hamden Fire Rescue personnel quickly arrived and rendered medical assistance. The victim, 21-year-old Dennis Allen-Paige of Hamden was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    A World War II veteran who was the second-to-last man to escape the USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor will be interred on the ship’s wreckage on Saturday.
    Lauren Bruner, one of 334 crew members to survive the December 7, 1941 attack, died on September 10, just months before his 99th birthday.

    A 17-year-old with cerebral palsy just walked across the finish line at the Las Vegas Great Santa Run.
    Mena Hawkins, a junior at at Liberty High School in Las Vegas, completed the one-mile course, using her walker, in 38 minutes, her father, Roger Hawkins, told CNN.
    Friends and family walked with her, clad in Santa garb, and hoisted signs that said “Go Mena.” Her grandmother flew all the way from England to see her walk.
