US escalates its anti-Big Tech crusade
via telecoms.comThe US House of Representatives has given the thumbs-up to a report that recommends a raft of legal measures designed to curb the power of Big Tech.
The ‘Final Report on Investigation of Competition in Digital Markets’ runs to no less than 450 pages. Essentially it asks whether the US tech giants have become too big and thus exert too much influence over the markets they inhabit. The conclusion that they have is hard to argue with, but what to do about it is another matter entirely. -

Romania goes ahead with Huawei 5G ban
via telecoms.comDespite the best efforts of Huawei’s lawyers, Romania is the latest country to bar Chinese vendors from its 5G networks.
Romania and Poland were persuaded to join team America when it came to excluding Chinese vendors from its 5G networks because they might help the Chinese state with espionage, or something. On top of being a diplomatic win for the US, it also represented yet example of the European Union failing to act collectively.

SK Telecom to spin off its non-telecoms companies
via telecoms.comKorean ICT group SKT has decided it’s too diversified, so will be creating a new company to house stuff like SK Hynix and ADT Caps.
It’s calling the move a ‘horizontal spin-off’, whatever that means. The whole thought process still seems to be in a fairly early stage, as indicated by the rather vague diagram below. The long and short of it is that SKT has a bunch of businesses that aren’t directly concerned with connectivity, so they might do better having their own -
