• Sierra Weather: I-80 Reopening After 22 Hours

    TRUCKEE (CBS13) — Caltrans is reopening Interstate 80 for the first time in nearly 24 hours.

    Update: as of noon estimated time for reopening I-80 in the Sierras. At 2 pm. the eastbound lanes and 3 pm for the westbound lanes.Please be prepared to watch for snow removal equipment.

  • Investigation Leads To Stolen Guns

    EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — El Dorado County Deputies have recovered a stash of stolen guns.
    Early this month, someone broke into at least two storage units, stealing eight guns, tools, and other equipment.Deputies watched the area, and early Friday morning stopped a suspicious vehicle nearby.
    They say they arrested Gloria Gloria Rodrigues-Fiske after finding bolt cutters, locks, and meth in her car.
    A search of a storage unit she owned in Lodi led to the recovery of most of the weapon

  • Traffic Stop Leads To Huge Bust Of Drugs And Guns

    VACAVILLE (CBS13) — Police in Vacaville have taken a stash of guns and methamphetamine off the street.
    It started as a traffic stop at the Vacaville Premium Outlets.
    Police say the two women in the car first gave the officers fake names, but they quickly ID’d the women, who both have multiple outstanding warrants.
    36-year-old Jade Bunn and 34-year-old Jennifer Jensen, both of Corning, are now behind bars for their warrants and a variety of drug and gun charges.

    IONE (CBS13) — An escaped inmate is back behind bars.
    Zechariah Lee walked away from Mule Creek State Prison on February 7.

    Police apprehended him last night at a gas station in the Merced area.
    Lee was serving a three-year sentence for first-degree robbery in Sacramento.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — High school teens from Yuba City to Modesto descended on a Sacramento warehouse today to pick out a free gown for their big night.

    The dresses were rescued from the Camp Fire burn zone when a non-profit’s Chico-area warehouse was destroyed.
    The gowns were handed out at a U-Haul storage center on North Freeway Boulevard in Sacramento.
     
  • Sacramento Weather: Power Still Out For Hundreds

    PLACERVILLE (CBS13) — On the ground and up in the trees, power crews worked through rain and snow to turn the lights back on for hundreds in the El Dorado County foothills still in the dark, Saturday.
    Charlie Robinson had been without power since Monday when he says the storm dumped more low snow than he’s ever on his property.
    “Actually, this is probably the worst snow we’ve ever had here, and I’ve been here for over 22 years,” Robinson said.

  • Sacramento State Issues Cease And Desist To Fraternity Accused Of Hazing

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento State fraternity under investigation for hazing, and has now been ordered to cease and desist all activity.
    The university issued the order after two allegations of hazing in the Delta Chi fraternity surfaced in the last two months.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California has its first female bishop.
    The vote happened today at the Special Electing Convention at Faith Episcopal Church, Cameron Park.
    The Reverend Canon Megan M. Traquair was selected from the first slate to ever include female candidates in the diocese of Northern California.

  • Deadly Crash Near Grass Valley

    GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash near Grass Valley.
    It happened early this morning on McCourtney Road.
    ALSO: Grass Valley And Foothill Communities Bracing For Winter Snow
    They say a witness reported seeing a Toyota Tacoma barely visible from the road.
    When CHP investigated, they found the driver dead in the vehicle, which had crashed into dense vegetation and an oak tree.
