• Davis Girls Officially Joining The Ranks Of Boy Scouts

    DAVIS (CBS13) – Friday marks a special occasion for girls all over the country. For the first time in history, girls between 11 and 17 can officially join the Boy Scouts. The organization made the decision back in 2017 to allow girls to earn the same merit badges as the boys.
    “We should be able to compete together because neither of us is better than the other!” said 13-year-old Amara O’Brien.
    O’Brien has been with Girl Scout Troop 625 since she was five-years-old.&

  • A Jackknifed Big Rig Shuts Down Both Sides Of Hwy 50 At Mather Field

    RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) — A jackknifed big rig has stopped traffic on both sides of Highway 50 in Rancho Cordova.
    Metro Fire of Sacramento said the collision involved a semi truck and a pickup truck on eastbound 50.
    Two people have been transported to the hospital, according to Metro Fire. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.

    NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) — A suspect wanted for attempted murder was arrested in Nevada County Friday after leading police in a pursuit, crashing his car, and running away on foot, according to the sheriff’s department.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An autopsy found that complications of mixed drug intoxication and cardiopulmonary arrest while being restrained lead to the death of Marshall Miles in police custody last November.
    Autopsy results released Friday showed 36-year-old Miles had meth, ecstasy, cocaine, and marijuana in his system at his time of death. He also sustained blunt force injures to his torso and limbs.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A man was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in prison for sex trafficking a child Friday, according to the Department of Justice.
    Abdul Basier Hashimi, 26, of Elk Grove, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking of a child on Aug. 31, 2018. According to court documents, Hashimi met the 13-year-old victim in August 2014 on social media and began communicating with her.
