New catalyst edges closer to hydrogen production from seawater
The discovery of a new catalyst has brought scientists closer to the direct production of hydrogen from seawater.
Researchers at the Leiden Institute of Chemistry say using iridium oxide with a layer of manganese oxide only a dozen nanometres thick can minimise the production of chlorine gas during salt water electrolysis instead forming oxygen, meaning the process is harmless to the environment.
The electrolysis of water is an important step for the production and use of hydrogen as an energy s -

Lidl Ireland charges up store car parks with EV infrastructure
Lidl Ireland has committed to installing electric vehicle (EV) charging points at all of its new supermarkets and refurbishment projects.
The Irish branch of the supermarket chain says it will build 40 EV charging points across 20 of its locations over the next six months, a move it expects to help slash emissions and work towards a decarbonised transport system.
The chargers, which will be free to use for customers, are expected to cost around €150,000 (£134,000) and will be put -

New battery tech ‘could recharge EVs in seconds, not hours’
Scientists say a new liquid battery could mean electric vehicles can be charged in seconds rather than hours.
Chemists from the University of Glasgow claim to have developed a flow battery system using nano-molecules to store energy, which can be released as either electric power and hydrogen gas.
Concentrating the nano-molecules into a liquid means the amount of energy it can store is increased nearly tenfold – high energy density means it offers longer range for vehicles and more resilie -
